Students could become unmotivated. Students could draw the conclusion that work is for work's sake. Students would loose the valuable feedback from a judged event. All the benefits of having a closing event could/would be lost. The purpose in their presentations would be lost if the presentation is not presented. Why make a publishable work if it is not going to be published? The ease of publishing and presenting is amazing. It is not a difficult task anymore. The point of global projects is to be connected. Being "present" thousands of miles apart is now easy. There are no excuses like cost or time anymore due to technology. The hurdles are minimal. Students have done all the things that would be required to create an event for the end of their projects. It is a continuation of their activities as well as a culmination. Good job guys!!

Chapter 7 Guided Question

Our text said that students who have choice learn: how to learn, how to present, and how to collaborate. It also stated that students who choice are allowed to question, build, invent, connect, learn, excel and have meaning. When a student has choice in their learning, it clicks with their intrinsic motivation. When a student can choose the hows of their learning, it increases student engagement. When a student can choose, it ensures the students participation. It is the "want to" factor. Our "want to" makes the things that we do feel less like a burden or a duty. It is the same for students. Attitudes completely change when they are egaged, motivated, and participate.

Chapter 6 Guided Question

The little green light has saved me several times. The little green light is the sign that someone else is out there. The little green light is the "present" sign on most applications now i.e. Ning, Blackboard IM, Google. However, we as teachers cannot be online and accessible at all times, so the little green light must go out. The three Rs make up the rest of the teacher's visibility--receiving, reading, and responding. For students that are in elementary to high school this means a turn around time within 12-24 hours. The teacher can not be a lurker or a nonresponder. The teacher must model contribution. A teacher can do this be establishing their profile and presence within the project--the little green light. A teacher is visible when they are prompt to respond or seek out the lurking/noncontributing student. The teacher is academically visible when they ask a prompting question. The teacher must be a "watcher" that is seen.

ED 408 Blog Reflection 1: RSS Reader
I am not really a fan. I have looked over it. I don't like the fact that I have had to scroll down to the education posts having to go past the news about the French Open, congress, etc. I thought that I have picked the stuff to see. I also am the type of person that searches for what I need or want to know about. I usually have a specific subject in mind. I do scan the news because it is news, but I don't really scan other topics. I did, however, come across a post on classroom use of twitter. I have been thinking about having it on my many ways to communicate with my future parents. I don't have a twitter account by choice. Becoming a teacher has made me sign up for everything under the sun--it feels like. The article was posted from Primary Preoccupation (Kathy Cassidy). It talked about the great things accessible for the classroom. That is the sort of thing I had in mind, but, there was no "how to". I will go search The Kim Komando Show for the "how to". Which reminds me, I think I should put her on my list on Feedly.
